What the evidence shows

MOTS-c was discovered in 2015, and most research is in cells and mice. Human studies so far measure natural MOTS-c levels; they don't test it as a treatment.

A modified analog (CB4211) reached a small early-stage human trial, but its results don't apply directly to MOTS-c itself.

Safety and regulatory position

Not approved · preclinical

MOTS-c is not an approved drug. In April 2026 FDA removed it from its list of substances with safety concerns for compounding (Category 2), and an advisory committee reviewed it in July 2026, but no rule allowing pharmacies to compound it has been issued.

There is no published human safety data for injected MOTS-c. Research-grade material sold online is not an approved drug. Its identity, purity and amount can't be assumed without independent testing, so check the vendor's batch COA.
